UX Designer (Remote)

Harmonix is looking for a talented, passionate, detail-oriented UX Designer to join our design team, creating best-in-class music games. The UX Designer is responsible for ensuring the usability of Harmonix’s games. We’re looking for a UX Designer who will conceptualize and realize instinctual, accessible game flow with a contemporary feel across our titles.

Note: this position can be fully remote and does not require relocation to Boston (although we are open to relocation and local candidates). Our studio has operated effectively with remote employees in the past, both prior to and during the pandemic.

Responsibilities:

  • Design the feel, usability, and accessibility of our games
  • Own the design of the player’s user experience from top to bottom
  • Create clear and comprehensive wireframes that demonstrate the functionality and intent of all on-screen elements throughout the game
  • Develop interactive mockups, storyboards, and user narratives to further articulate and define the variety of user journeys throughout the game
  • Define the design that the UI Artists implement
  • Incorporate iterative design and plan for/react to live user data to create a streamlined experience based on how our players want to engage with our games
  • Effectively advocates and persuasively presents to the team leads, the team at large, the broader studio, the executive team, our publishing partners, and other stakeholders

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • 5+ years’ UX Design experience
  • Outstanding portfolio that includes wireframes and representations of in-game or in-software design work
  • Mastery of tools (Axure, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, and/or others) to create wireframes and mockups
  • Experience driving continuous engagement and social interaction
  • Excellent written and presentational communication skills
  • A detailed understanding of user-centered design, with excellent hands-on design skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize requests, communicate with stakeholders, and meet expected milestones
  • Passion for music required; musicians preferred
  • Open to exceptional designers who have not worked in games before but have a strong portfolio of work

 

Bonus Points:

  • Experience translating user stories and game design requirements into visual narratives, flowcharts, maps, and information architecture a plus
  • Experience designing for a variety of interaction idioms and input devices (e.g. mouse/keyboard, gamepad, mobile/tablet) a plus
  • Experience working on titles that shipped on multiple platforms a plus
