Celebrating 20 Years of Coldplay’s Parachutes

Rock Band fan favorite British supergroup Coldplay is in the spotlight for the next two weeks celebrating Coldplay from Parachutes to Everyday Life!

Coldplay formed in the late 1990’s when Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion met at University College London. After releasing a pair of well-received EPs, the quartet dropped their debut album, Parachutes, during the Summer of 2000. The success of lead single “Shiver” and the follow up global smash, “Yellow”, had music fans buzzing around the globe in anticipation for their first full length release. The critical reception and commercial success of Parachutes proved the band was a force to be reckoned with. The album was certified 9x Platinum in the U.K., certified Double Platinum across the pond in the United States and earned the band their first Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.

“Shiver” will be fun for your whole Rock Band crew. Vocalists will try to match Chris Martin’s smooth vocals while guitarists have fun with the interesting and technical riffs. “Shiver”, Parachutes debut single, joins the DLC catalog this week. It joins the previously released DLC “Yellow” and is a great way to begin our Coldplay Parachutes to Everyday Life Pack.

Jam to Parachutes on Spotify to be reminded of where it all began.

By the time Coldplay was gearing up to release their 3rd LP in 2005, expectations were high – they had become one of the biggest bands in the world, selling out arenas and millions of records. “Speed of Sound”, the first taste of X & Y that fans were given, made an immediate impact by debuting at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 – it became their first and biggest U.S. single up to that point. The song earned Coldplay two Grammy nods, the Brit Award for Best British Single, and numerous songwriting awards. “Speed of Sound” is a familiar, chill jam that all members of your crew will be humming and singing along to for days after you achieve the Full Combo. Drummers, keep the beat rolling while your singers belt their hearts out.

Coldplay frequently experimented with synthesizers and drum machines throughout their music so it was only natural that they would collaborate with a marquee name in the EDM world. In 2017, Coldplay paired up with The Chainsmokers to release “Something Just Like This”. The song would become one of Coldplay’s most successful releases, hitting #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling over 7 million copies in the U.S. alone (their highest sales tally for any of their singles). “Something Just Like This” is the perfect upbeat song for the weekend. The Chainsmokers & Coldplay came together to create this beautiful tale of embracing who you are. Don’t be shy, dance and show off some moves while you’re perfecting your skills.

Over their 20-plus year career, Coldplay have released 8 full-length studio albums, 10 live albums, 15 EPs, and influenced an entire generation of musicians. They’ve sold over 100 million albums and won countless awards, including 7 Grammy Awards, 3 Brit “Album Of The Year” awards, and a plethora of other accolades.

Their most recent release, Everyday Life, is a double-album that’s split up into parts called “Sunrise” and “Sunset”. Coldplay went in an experimental direction, famously unafraid to push boundaries with their sound while trying out new things. Everyday Life became their 7th top-ten album on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. In this powerful song, Coldplay recognizes that it’s an admirable and worthy feat to navigate through this lifetime and survive. Yet again, this Coldplay track is arranged perfectly where all Rock Band players will have a blast playing it. Let your feelings take over and go for that Full Band Full Combo. Four singles have stemmed from Everyday Life, including “Orphans”, which already is available as DLC to play in Rock Band. Give it a listen on Spotify.

To commemorate the start of a massive and incredibly beloved career, Coldplay is releasing a beautiful limited edition, transparent yellow Parachutes vinyl album. Coldplay fans of the past and present should get their hands on this before it’s gone, it’s a very necessary addition to a music lover’s collection. Pre-order it now here.
