We're kicking off the new year with another variety release from many corners of music!
We start this week off with one of Depeche Mode’s signature songs, “Enjoy The Silence”. Released in 1990, it topped the Billboard Modern Rock chart and was their highest charting song on the Hot 100. “Enjoy The Silence” helped propel their album Violator to triple-platinum status in the U.S. and secured their legacy as electronic rock pioneers. Unsurprisingly, the song is a ton of fun to sing, and the instrumentation features more than enough variety to be interesting for everyone.
The Go-Go’s bring us an excellent Rewind with “We Got The Beat”. Previously on the Rock Band 2 disc, it’s just too fun to leave there. The signature song of the band’s, it comes from Beauty and the Beat, an album with the honor of being the highest-selling album exclusively written by an all-female band. The album stayed at #1 on the Billboard charts for six weeks thanks to the performances of “We Got The Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed”. The iconic drum beat opens the song and repeats in each verse, with a drum solo near the ending of the song. Tight harmonies lead into an outro that bounces the title line back and forth between two lines for tons of fun.
“Torn” also sees release this week, the ‘90s hit from Natalie Imbruglia. The opening track and lead single off Natalie Imbruglia’s debut album Left of the Middle, her performance of “Torn” immediately became a worldwide hit, reaching the top 10 of American charts and hitting #2 in Natalie’s birthplace of Australia, along with topping charts in five other countries. Everyone knows the words to the song, but the range may surprise you when first playing. Yet once you get it down, you’re all set, as the vocals stay consistent throughout. The drums maintain a high speed on the right hand during the whole song, testing your stamina.
