It’s not Rock Band, it’s Pop Band!
Whenever we release a track from a “pop” artist, people love to roast us for it. They may say “the game is called Rock Band, not Pop Band” which inspired this whole Rivals season. But we wanted to take this week to celebrate the genre and give you a chance to sing your heart out to all the classic and brand-new hits.
First up is one of the biggest songs of 2021. Lil Nas X’s first single of the year and title track to his debut album, “MONTERO (Call Me by Your Name)” was the hot topic back in March off the back of some creative marketing and a rather divisive music video. The song features a prominent acoustic guitar part with some pitch-shifted vocal layers backed by claps, electronic percussion and a deep bass line.
Deriving the second part of his name from his Southern California hometown, singer Tai Verdes went from selling cell phones in early 2020 to becoming one of pop’s rising stars by the end of the year. His biggest track to date and the closing song on his debut album TV, “A-O-K” features an uplifting guitar line, positive lyrics, an upbeat drum part and a tastefully fun bassline.
