This week, we’re adding our first DLC tracks from Joe Jackson and Seven Mary Three!
The debut single from Joe Jackson, "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" continues the Season 5 Spotlight Pass this week. Off the album Look Sharp!, it charted well on both sides of the ocean in 1979. Since then, it's become an oft-covered pop culture staple. During the verses, the drums avoid the hi-hat riding to deviate from the norm. Harmonies have a unique chord progression, making them a bit trickier to sing than you may start off thinking.
Seven Mary Three scored the hit "Cumbersome" from their platinum-selling album American Standard. Hitting the top 10 of the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and topping the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in 1996, it quickly became the band's signature song. At the end of the '90s, Billboard ranked it in their Top Mainstream Rock Songs of the Decade list. The guitar is listed as the easiest part, but it's a diverse chart with standard chord work, arpeggiated notes, and some HOPO chord work. Tons of fun and great for learning. Vocals have a small range, but some scoops keep it interesting to follow.
