Revisiting the Rock Band Library: Alli's Favorites

Rock Band 4 will launch later this year with access to our massive library of over 2,000 songs, which is more than any music game in history. To get you excited about diving back into your own Rock Band library, we’ve asked every member of the Rock Band 4 team to tell us their absolute favorite Rock Band songs of all time. Maybe this series will even highlight some tracks you didn’t even know we have in the library! Every week we’ll bring you a new list from a different team member with a little bit of background info on them. We’re kicking this off with Alli Thresher, Designer on Rock Band 4, former Community Team member, and all-around awesome lady.

Name: Alli Thresher

Title on Rock Band 4: Designer

First time playing Rock Band: My parents were hosting this massive, formal, family party a few years back. Between pleasantries and small talk with my aunts I noticed that my brothers had disappeared. Shortly thereafter I realized there were no cousins from my age group anywhere to be seen. I went inside and poked around until I heard music and laughter coming from the upstairs. I went up and stumbled upon an epic Rock Band session, orchestrated by my two little brothers. We played for hours. Two years later I got a job at Harmonix.

Favorite Rock Band Songs of All Time

  • "Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones - To be totally honest, this is one of my favorites just because my mom can never remember the title, mishears the lyrics, and just starts yelling “Play the ‘shotaway song!’” whenever we play Rock Band together. (The title is some variation on the misheard lyrics every time).
  • "Thrasher" by Evile - One of my favorite aspects of the Rock Band franchise is finding new music through the game. Evile became one of my favorite bands after I heard "Thrasher" in-game. I even got to interview Ol Drake for the blog a few years ago – and we used to run a community challenge based on this song that produced an incredible number of memories.
  • "Help Is On The Way" by Rise Against - Rise Against is one of my favorite bands of all time, so it’s hard to pick just one of their songs to list. (We have 8 total). I picked this one as my standout because it’s fun to play, challenging for vocalists, and has an amazing video that’s worth checking out.
  • "Living After Midnight" by Judas Priest - Again, super hard to choose just one track because I’m a huge Judas Priest fan and we have 22 (!!) of the band’s songs in our catalog. This is just a great party song and I really dig the live version that we got.
  • "Andres" by L7 - This was the first song that I ever managed to pull off the old singing while drumming party trick. I looked super cool.
