Fitness Challenge 2013: Tracy's Progress

Harmonixers are joining the Dance Central fitness campaign to work alongside you in using Dance Central and Kinect to reach personal goals. In this series of personal blog posts from Harmonix, we’re sharing what our goals are and how we are using Dance Central to accomplish them!

NAME: TRACY

PROFILE: BUSY EXECUTIVE LADY SEEKING FIT FOR LIFE!

My goal was to increase my cardio exercise weekly, tone up, lose some weight, and start my days with a psychic jolt of dance-infused joy to spread into my work and home life. Click here for my intro blog!

HOW ARE YOU DOING

I rocked it in January. Was super consistent for most of Jan working out three times a week with Dance Central 3, two times a week of Pilates mat classes and my weekend dance class. Then I got sick, got super busy doing other things in the mornings, and fell off my goals at the very end of January and early February. But kicked myself back into gear and got back on track.

HOW ARE YOU FEELING

I feel pretty good. My clothes feel a bit looser. I’m enjoying the balance of DC for flexibility and cardio and Pilates for core strengthening each week.

SETBACKS & SURPRISES

Everyone gets sick at some point each year. And this winter has been a rough one with the flu going around. I ended up sick for three days. But I found that if I wasn’t able to dance, doing stretches and breathing was good for me to start those mornings. I really kicked up my motivation when I created my custom “choreographer battle playlists”. It’s so fun to immerse yourself in one or two choreographer’s style for a few days. This has become my favorite way to create fitness routines in DC.

FRIDAY FITNESS CHALLENGES

I particularly loved the first one, the “Get Low” Challenge. It was really an awesome work out for your legs and butt. I could feel it all week.

MY PERSONAL PLAYLIST

My new favorite way to set up playlists is to create "VS. playlists" with two DC choreographers battling for my workout (5 consecutive songs followed by the others’). One week I worked on the “Frenchy VS Channel” playlist. It was super fun to immerse myself in the lyrical movement of Frenchy and the cheerleading cardio style of Chanel. A great contrast! The next week I made the Kunle VS Torey playlist. Their styles are so unique and fun. You guys should try this one:

  • “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” by New Kids On The Block (DC3)

  • “Wild Ones" by Flo Rida (DC3)

  • “Technologic" by Daft Punk (DC2)

  • “Run (I'm A Natural Disaster)" by Gnarls Barkley (DC2)

  • "Around The World" by Daft Punk (DC3)

  • "Teach Me How To Dougie" by Cali Swag District (DC3)

  • "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO ft. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock (DLC)

  • "Sexy And I Know It" by LMFAO (DC3)

  • “You Make Me Feel . . ." by Cobra Starship ft. Sabi (DC3)

  • “Sexy Chick" by David Guetta ft. Akon (DC2)

  • MOVING FORWARD

During my vacation to Puerto Rico, I will be dancing the Salsa and swimming a bunch since I won’t have Dance Central with me. But once I’m back, I’m going to dig into more choreographer “VS. playlists” with the rest of the choreographers.

    WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Keeping up a workout routine week after week can be really hard. Finding a workout community, team, or friend to commit to can push you over the hump when you just aren’t feeling it one morning. I recently read that females lose over 1/3 more weight when they are working out with a friend consistently than working out alone. If you are creating a workout regime alone, reach out to someone else who you know wants to get fit too. Start your workout plan together and push each other to meet daily and weekly goals. Even if you can’t workout in the same place, send your workout partner a push each morning online. Motivate each other, compete with each other --- it works.
