Season 26 draws to a close with our final Personality Challenge. We’re stoking the flames of competitiveness this week with our Personality Challenge: The Competitor. Social graces be damned - indulge in your urge to crush the leaderboards, taunt your foes and climb your way to the top. Our first new DLC song this week is “I Won’t Give It Up” from Beartooth. Started by Caleb Shlomo as a side project, Beartooth quickly became his focus upon in 2012. Their recently released 4th album, Below, has been widely hailed as their tour de force and it’s easy to hear why. “I Won’t Give It Up” is a perfect encapsulation of the bands’ sound: a powerful mix of gritty guitars, addictive hooks and a wall of sound that begs repeat plays just to catch the intricacies of various instrumental parts.
Next up this week is “Pretty Mouth” from girlfriends. Southern California natives Travis Mills and Nick Gross formed girlfriends in 2020 and within a year had released their self-titled debut album. More recently, the band released a handful of singles which were compiled on the (e)motion sickness EP. “Pretty Mouth” is one of the stand out tracks - it’s an unabashed homage to some of Mills & Gross’ musical influences rooted in the pop-punk scene of the 00’s. The song itself features an irresistible melody, consistently up-tempo, driving drums and multiple riffs on both the bass and guitar that make it fun to play for everyone.
