DLC Week of 8/15: A Day to Remember, Oliver Tree, and Sleater-Kinney!

The middle of August sees DLC from A Day to Remember, Oliver Tree, and Sleater-Kinney!

A Day to Remember’s Gold single “Have Faith In Me” starts us off this week. One of their most played live tracks, it was a top 40 hit on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and notably was the most frequently requested song on KROQ for over a month straight. Drums spends much of the song on a snare roll with some slightly shifting kick pairs. Otherwise, everything’s heavy, with lots of kicking, prominent bass, and guitar chords. You’ll enjoy singing this one, as it’s mostly pitched instead of A Day to Remember’s more common alternating pattern.

Oliver Tree has been rapidly growing in popularity, fueled by his signing to Atlantic Records and hype around his upcoming debut album Ugly Is Beautiful. Upon being released as a single, “Hurt” reached #11 on Billboard Hot Rock Songs and got all the way to #4 on Alternative Songs. Oliver Tree has roots in internet virality, shown when “Hurt” got a million views on YouTube in its first week (and is now around 20 million). Guitar and bass do a lot of back-and-forth, with bass taking point on verses and guitar kicking off choruses. Vocals tell a sad, sad tale of getting in a scooter accident.
Oliver Tree is kicking off his final tour, so get over to olivertreemusic.com now and grab tickets before they finish selling out. The site’s got a bunch of music videos, for “Hurt” and his latest, “Miracle Man”. And it’s got merch bundles of music and matching shirts.

Sleater-Kinney’s “Jumpers”, from their major label debut The Woods, also joins RB4 this week. One of the most celebrated albums of the decade, with placement on Rolling Stone’s AND Pitchfork’s Top Albums of the 2000s lists, the bassline features a lot of chords due to Sleater-Kinney having no bass player and instead featuring a tuned-down guitar. Drums move at a good clip, so you won’t have much time to react to upcoming fills, but you’ll get breaks when the song switches to tom beats in the chorus.

For the first two weeks of release, “Hurt” can be purchased individually for $1.49. Songs can be purchased individually for $1.99. The Rock Band Rivals Season 12 Spotlight Pass can be purchased for $11.99.
